Philosophy with Dr. Rao
Danielle Tsi on Dr. Rao:
Dr Rao is a respected Sanskrit scholar with extensive knowledge not only about the Yoga Sutras but also other ancient texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. He is erudite and humble with good humor, which made his sessions a joy to attend. Check out this clip for a sample of his style.
His bio:
“Great scholar of sanskrit grammar, Vidwan HV Nagaraja Rao is a Sanskritist who has been trained in both the traditional and modern methods of education. He has specialized in Sanskrit grammar and poetics. He was a researcher in Oriental Research Institute, Mysore and published various original Sanskrit works with English and Kannada translations. He has taught Sanskrit at the University of Chicago as a visiting professor. He was invited as a fellow to Hebrew University of Jerusalem and guided the World Sanskrit conference at Edinburg in 2006 and delivered a speech in chaste Sanskrit. He has lectured at Yoga Thialnd in the island of Koh-Samui. He attended the Yoga conference in Hong-Kong in the year 2007. He has been awarded the prixe for translation by Sahitya Academy, the highest literary body in India in 2006. Recently, he has been chosen for honor by the President of India as a noted Sanskrit scholar. He is the honorary editor of Sudharma, the only Sanskrit daily newspaper in the world.”

We have a special opportunity to bring Dr. Rao from Mysore to lecture on yoga philosophy October 24-25, 2014. Danielle has studied directly with him while in Mysore.
To cover to cost of his visit we need to have at least ten people interested in attending at the cost of 35 per session with one or two days. We expect to run the sessions at around 200 pm Saturday and 100 Sunday pm.
If those of you who would like to attend can let Danielle or Sabina know that you are interested we can make a final decision. I have been told he does an excellent job of breaking down the sutras in an accessible and intelligent way. He will also be at Jois Encinitas, Jorgen’s place in LA and also Miami Life Center. If sufficient people are interested we can have him visit us too.
