I love ashtanga yoga for many reasons, but it has occured to me recently that it is unsurpassed as a way to maintain mental and physical health when you are stuck in a small space for a long time. However most people don’t know about it and it’s hard to get started just from videos and books. Hence this class. If the format works I plan to try to scale it.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
No need to have done yoga before, but since this is a dynamic practice you should be relatively fit and injury free. It
WHAT IS THE FORMAT?
It is an abbreviated version of the Ashtanga Primary Series (here is a pdf of all the postures of the series). The beginning and most important part of the practice are the sun salutations (A’s and B’s), maybe a few standing postures, sitting closing, and savasana. I started my own practice by doing sun salutations daily and even this simple 10 minute habit was transformative.
