Jazz singing this weekend
My singing teacher Wendy is singing this weekend at the little fox in Redwood City. I thought that some of you jazz fans maybe interested.
Women in Jazz
Featuring Kat Parra, Kristen Strom & Wendy Waller
Kat Parra, Kristen Strom, and Wendy Waller are three exceptional Jazz musicians as diverse stylistically as they are talented. This dynamic trio will present an evening of uniquely exquisite music. All three women are seasoned professional musicians, band leaders and are disciples of jazz, latin, Afro-Cuban, R&B, blues, and gospel music. Each of them has recently released full-length CDs.
Vocalist/songwriter Kat Parra’s CD, Birds In Flight, focuses on styles that range from afro-cuban, afro-peruvian, brazilian, south american folklore and Spanish Sephardic music. Kat’s 3 octave range and her facility for singing in multiple languages, creates an engaging and exciting international musical experience.
Saxophonist/flutist/vocalist/composer and arranger Kristen Strom’s CD, Intention, is a tribute to beautiful melodies Strom is a supremely versatile player. She has performed with a number of jazz greats, including saxophonist-composer Jimmy Heath, trombonist Steve Turre, singer Kevin Mahogany and trumpeter Jon Faddis. “With a tone that’s lithe and lustrous, Kristen Strom embodies her musical philosophy in every note she plays.” ~San Jose Mercury News
Vocalist/songwriter Wendy Waller’s CD, Beauty Queen, draws from classic American R&B, Jazz and Country Blues. These songs, mixed with her love of the classic Jazz standard, make for an interesting variety of artistry. Waller is a classically trained coloratura soprano who belts out jazz, blues and R&B with the power and passion of Aretha Franklin ala Ella Fitzgerald.
